David Jones takes heart at Wolves
Tuesday 26th October 2010, 10:00AM BST.
Midfielder David Jones is taking heart from Wolves “best football of the season” as the team continues its collision with the English game’s greatest powers.
Saturday’s trip to Chelsea is followed by tonight’s Carling Cup clash at Old Trafford with Premier League games against Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United also ahead.
But the midfielder reckons the Wolves camp is full of positivity after Saturday’s game despite the 2-0 defeat.
Jones said: “We played probably the best football of this season so far in terms of getting the ball down and passing it.
“Chelsea are such a good team who you would expect to have a lot of possession, but if you look at the stats I think we had 52 per cent.
“It’s a case of going to Old Trafford and wanting to get a victory and continue our run.
“They may well make a few changes but it will still be a very good Manchester United team.
“But we think if we can replicate Saturday’s performance against a top Chelsea team then we’ve got a definite chance of going through.
“We’ll be looking to do the same but this time convert our chances.”
Jones, who launched his career at United, believes Wolves have the mental strength to come through this challenging sequence of fixtures.
He added: “Going to Stamford Bridge at the moment must be the toughest place you can go.
“But we did well and have to take that confidence into tonight’s game and against Manchester City on Saturday.
“For that one I think we’ve got a real chance, particularly with playing at home.
“I don’t think we should fear anybody and we will be looking to make cup progress and pick up points.”
