Mick McCarthy warns of tough test
Saturday 23rd October 2010, 11:30AM BST.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy today declared Premier League survival will be more difficult this season.
McCarthy’s side went to Chelsea today third bottom after seven games without a win in the league despite spending £18m on new signings this summer.
Arch rivals the Baggies went into the weekend in sixth spot.
“I said when Newcastle came here that their team was full of players who had played in the Premier League – there was only James Perch and Mike Williamson who hadn’t,” said McCarthy.
“Albion are the same – they’ve got a fair few players who were in that team that went down. So I think it’s made them better and better able to compete.I don’t think anyone is going to go bust, so there’s one team less that won’t be in trouble.”
But McCarthy insisted Wolves are better equipped to deal with survival.
“I guess results from the end of last season to now probably wouldn’t back that up, but I think we’re stronger,” said the boss.
“Performances have been pretty good. The test is the proof of the pudding.”
McCarthy hopes things will turn soon but admitted they won’t improve unless they wipe out their own errors.
“There have been things go against us, but a lot of it has been our own fault as well,” he said.

Just go and give it your best shot lads,it wont be any disgrace if we lose, as just ‘TWO of their Top players’ cost nearly as much of our team put together. UTW:

To late McCarthy,
your negative tactics at the beginning of the season, including trying to kick Newcastle out of the game, have come home to roost.
The team is unable to attack because your tactics of ”paas the ball back to the keeper” is installed in them.
They are also devoid of confidence.
The Wolves are going down unless you resign ASAP and let a new more positive manager take over.
But I feel it is too late now.
12 Games, 6 points, no chance.

A reasonable assessment of the situation, but no doubt the usual McCarthy knockers will respond in the usual negative way.
Albion are doing well at the moment as are Blackpool, but there are another 30 games to go before the end of the season.
I seem to remember that Hull were riding high a couple of seasons ago, only to to have a catastrophic run results and only just avoided relegation.
Long way to go yet.

We’re better equpped and yet were doing much worse then last season? What are you on about? Start using some of this £18 million talent rather than using them to warm your bench! or playing them out of position! rather than subjecting us to the same frustrations week in week out. Do us all a favour too and leave Ward at home because he is completly inept.

the real reason we down there is becouse of u mick u wont play the players in the right place and u keep playing the ones who kiss your feet and u leave players out the team who are better than the ones on the pitch so wake up if not go now before its to late for the wolves

I thought we were in the Premiership last season, so we should be in a similar or better position, with players with experience. But our team does not seem to have moved on and we seem to look more like the newcomers to the league than Albion or Newcastle.I think Mick has reached his level with the team, and I can not see us moving on with him there, he is out of his depth.

Problem here is the manager, ask the Sunderland fans. Things have gone against us MM claims. Sorry it’s the tactics and his insistence to persist with his championship team at all costs.

Why does he keep saying this? So far, apart from Stoke we have been pants this year. Stronger, my fur coat.

A fair assesment, all Wolves fans want us to get something from today’s game and the next few.
Although hope is not enough and the test is made harder as we still don’t know our best team, a settled team.
I for the life of me cannot understand selling big Chis and bringing in Bent, not playing SEB and keep taking Fletcher off.
Good Luck to the team today.
Mick is only putting himself under pressure by his strange selections and decisions.
He has a lot of loyalty from many fans what he has done in the last few years for us, but I am afaid time is running out.

Great performance today.
We knew 0 points was the likely outcome and it was, but only 2-0.
We had a good share of the game, something 90% of teams don’t get against Chelsea.
Milias played well and Jones seemed to have a new spirit of life injected in him today.
Hope Henry seen this and realised both can tackle, intercept and go forward and cause problems for even the biggest and best teams in the league.
Good to see Hunt and Jarvo take to the flanks in the 2nd half. Points can only be around the corner for us now.
Lets see this team take on United Tuesday night to see how United cope.
UP THE WOLVES…..
