Midfielder David Jones has insisted Wolves can be flexible friends in their bid to get back to winning ways.

Last week Wolves dominated Villa in the second half after switching from 4-4-2 to 4-5-1, only to go down 2-1 after deservedly dragging themselves level in what was their third successive defeat.

Wolves survived the drop last season after playing one up front for 15 games from the end of January and Jones believes adaptability is the key.

He said: "We have to be flexible. We can adapt to a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 depending on how the game is going or what the opposition are doing.

"If it's not working you have to change it and we've got players capable of doing that. Last season we were comfortable in the formation and managed to grind out results.

"Maybe in certain games we didn't have the same attacking threat but this season we've added to the squad and have more experience.

"So in that formation we could be more attacking as we were in the second-half against Villa."

Jones added: "With the extra man in there you've got more options and it's about making the numbers count.

"Sometimes with two up front you might think you've got more of an attacking threat but that's not always the case.

"The way the game went on Sunday, the momentum was with us in the second-half and we were picking up everything.

"We looked a good attacking threat with the formation. We played 4-4-2 on the opening day against Stoke and ended up winning.

"It proved more difficult to do it against Villa but the change at half-time certainly helped us."

Wigan did similar to Wolves in their goalless draw at Birmingham last weekend, starting with 4-4-2 before reverting to one up front.

But Jones is confident his team can win the game regardless of the formation the hosts deploy.

He said: "We feel if we keep the same sort of level we had in the second-half against Villa and at times against Tottenham and Fulham then we've got a good chance.

"It would be nice to have a bit of luck as well, it's a pressure game but we proved last season that when we needed results, we can come through.

"We've been in winning positions and maybe just a lack of concentration at the end or mistakes by a group of us have cost us."
