Steve Morgan backing Wolves revival

Wolves chairman Steve Morgan has vowed the team will come good and tipped new-boy Stephen Hunt to prove a major hit.

Mick McCarthy’s side go to Wigan on Saturday reeling from three successive defeats that have seen them ship five late goals, after leading in two of them.

Morgan was dismayed at the media portrayal of his team as ‘dirty’ before Adlene Guedioura’s broken leg against Villa last weekend and is adamant Wolves have been on the end of some harsh decisions.

The multi-millionaire sanctioned a summer club-record £18million spend on new players and is confident the squad will soon return Wolves back to winning ways.

He said: “It’s still early days. Everton are bottom of the league and does anyone really think they’re going to end up bottom? They won’t.

“We’ve had this run but it’s not a reflection on our ability – it’s more a reflection on some pretty awful luck.

“I just think Mick and the players will get it right and we’ll climb the league.”

Morgan added: “It’s been a tough month but we’ll come good. I felt the Villa game was a real sickener and that not for the first time this season some refereeing decisions cost us.

“I didn’t think Stephen Warnock, who crossed the ball for the winner, should have been on the pitch.

“Having said that, if we tighten that up then we’ll be alright. The second-half performance against Villa was as good as we’ve played. That’s why it was such a sickener to lose in the way we did.

“On our second-half performance, we deserved a win, so to lose was something that’s taken a while to get over.”

Hunt is expected back in contention after the international break and Morgan is expecting big things of the Republic of Ireland international.

He said: “Like a lot of Wolves fans, I’m really looking forward to seeing him play.

“I was a huge admirer of his when he was playing for Hull and Reading.

“I’m sure he’ll make a difference for us.”

Hunt has been progressing well from his foot injury and McCarthy hopes he can be available for the visit of West Ham on October 16.

I hope you are correct Mr Morgan, for a man who has authorised the spend over the last two seasons, you must be concerned about the team that keeps being picked, without many of the signings that have arrived.

The continual playing of players out of position, the reasons for not picking players, tired, injured, homesick etc, etc, a midfield that is not supporting the attack, hence we are playing too deep, and two CH’s who are not good enough for this league.

We have a lot of effort given by all the players, and we all hope that we will stay up this season, but effort and hope is not enough. It needs the manager to be capable of recognising when things are not working and do something about it.

The fans are paying hard earned cash to turn up and watch the team, and should be able to see the best players that the club can put on the field, alas this has not been the case so far this season.

I will say it before all the so called cretinous “fans” bob?olf,Sir lupi,100% ?olf, robin ?olf, stave andrews and the other non wolves of their ilk that come on having a go at him, Mick and Jez.
Well said Steve, stick to your principles by backing Mick and stick two fingers up to those who think they know better- with these so called fans we are doomed, but thank god we have supporters who can see the bigger picture!

We are Wolves…..has Bilston Wolf say’s YOU SHOULD BE TOO!

Yeah, coulda woulda shoulda. An alternative view would be that if we fail to get at least 4 points from the next two games then we are seriously up a certain creek. There’s no point sugar-coating a dodgy start, mate.

Still early days, and although theres a few negativs from our start to the season, theres a few positives as well, such as we havent failed to score in a single game thus far. I cant wait for us to have some influential players back in conention, as im sure we will prove the critics wrong.

We need to get behind the team. But MM needs to pick the right team to get behind not just his usual lads. Yes Berra and Craddock were good last season but who is in the squad to take their places ? no one. We have an average midfield as MM thinks that David Jones will be our answer. Well he is like many of the others inconsistant. I pray HUnt is back soon because we are lacking creativity apart from Jarvo.

    Johnwolf, shaaadddupppayaface.

Im a big fan of Mick, but im a bigger fan of Wolves FC.

I, like many, have been a bit hurt after Fulham, Spurs and Sunday against the Vile, so when I read about players bein’ homesick, and watch Lee Hughes show-boating in front of the southbank, i get a little angry and point my finger at the Management.

Maybe my suggestion of drafting in O’ Neil is a knee jerk reaction to 3 bad results, but we’ve seen bigger names given the bullet for similar situations, such as Hughes at City, Curbishly at Charlton and more recently Phil Brown at Hull, given the chop in his second season.

Im not saying the above were good decisions, but what I am doing is putting pressure on Mick, because its a results business and we ay gettin’ many at the mo.

Anyway, just to underline, I am backing Mick all the way….

    For now.

The article on the late Harry Marshall is very fitting in my opinion. It is good to know he kept coming to the Molineux. He was clearly a Wolves man through and through. I think the article is incorrect in stating Wolves went into liquidation,I am sure we went into Administration and at the end some creditors including the bank received £1 for £1 debt.Mr Marshall lost a considerable sum in the value of the old shares. Also it was Doug Ellis who was Chairman for a few weeks who called in the Administators, not Harry Marshall.

To a point a agree with you Steve, i thought on our 2nd half performance we deserved a draw at least, if not all 3pts. Its has you say we’ve given our last three games away due to lack of ‘concentration’ nothing else, we actually played some very good football, and dominated 40mins of it. But football last’s a minimum of 90mins, most games last 93-95mins now, so players have to concentrate that bit more. But i still think Berra should have had more cover around him when Heskey scored, you should ‘always’ have two players around a striker anywhere near the six-yard area, one in the front of him and one behind him, leaving him no room to move or jump. It was an excellent goal, but a goal that he should NEVER have been allowed to score. RE-Hunt yes i will be glad to see him in a Wolves shirt,i kept saying prior to signing him ,that id buy him ‘injured’ or not, like Villa did with Stuart Downing, because when he does get fit he will do a good job for us, he’s a MM type of player ‘puts a shift in’ ( he’s my type too ),but he’s much more than just that. He’s got a lot of skill, he’s very creative an excellent passer/crosser of the ball, but he scores a lot of goals too. My only concern is playing Matty Jarvis on the right wing?, i dont think Matt plays anywhere near as good on the right as he does on the left, cutting inside and crossing, and shooting with his right foot. So it will be interesting to see if Hunt can play right wing as good as he does on the left wing?. UTW

One centre half ive seen play on the tv a ‘full match’ and a few times on the highlights is Ben Turner? of Coventry City, he looks a decent CH, who can score goals too. So pehaps he might be worth looking at with a few to buying him in January. He’s a big strong / powerful type, he looks quick too. So my two players id like to see in January is Ben Turner and Kriss Commons, and if David Jones doesn’t commit himself soon then a new central midfielder someone like Jermaine Jenas?. And a new left back unless we try Foley ( when Zubar is fit ) or Mancienne, has sorry but Ward isn’t good enough in that position or for the PL, whether MM thinks (he’s a top bloke), so or not, it may have worked with Kevin Kilbane at Sunderland/Ireland, but NOT with Ward at Wolves. Lets have some info on what is going on. When will we see Zubar and Moyokolo. What’s happened to Mancienne as he wasn’t on the bench on Saturday. How close is Kites to going out on loan? How much are we paying Van Damme a week to be feeling sorry for himself? How long do we think Ward and Edwards are the answer?
When are we going to get the rub of the green with the ref and the press?
When will we buy someone who can get their foot on the ball and show some class. I can’t fault the workrate but if all we can do is lump the ball hopefully then it won’t produce the goods, so why are we playing like that?. It isn’t pleasant to watch and we will never fill a 40,000 stadium till we have got the team in place.

I do questions the likes of “JOHNWOLF” who only get on here to criticise fellow wolves fans who show concern at there beloved wolves difficulties.
Take the very first comment,in may humble opinion this is a very good summary in a nutshell of WOLVES.
No one is bigger than the club,Mick got us to the premiership and I will always remain thankful, but this does not mean mick is the best man to keep and improve us in the premiership.
MICK say’s things that dont match up with what I see with my eyes.If mick was fair and completely football focused STEPHEN WARD would not be in the side.As everyone knows he is an obvious weak link in the team.Yet remains in the team, and this is baffling as to why?Yet on the other hand we have SEB who scores and then is put on the bench and does not even get on as sub.Yet DOYLE is never dropped yet he as only had one header against the bar and no other shots or headers at GOAL!
I could carry on with the issues, like playing players out of position constantly, having no pattern to our game majority of the time,we have no young players coming in from the reserves, yet there are some good players but mick wont play them.(albrighton for villa).
Mick plays 7-8 defence minded players yet we constantly leak or give away poor goals! You would think defenceviley we would be strong but we are not as the conceded goals prove.
MICK as to change and observe football matters as he did when he was commentating at the world cup,he is extremely blinkered and they have to come off.He also needs to develop a new positive approach and beleive that we are more than able to stay up and do this by beating teams by being the better footballing team.
We do have players it’s getting the combination correct, strikers playing as strikers, midfielders as midfielders and defenders as defenders,it really is that simple.
HUNT will be a good addition but I am concerned that with his injury sittuation it will be a few months before the lad can do justice to his ability, and by then it maybe a case of bye prem and hello championship, and this is the real situation we are facing.
It is time for bold decisions and a positive approach,as for being behind the wolves I will always be behind my club.I will also not let individuals ruin it because they feel they are owed loyality on past successes.

    8. Biggles: There IS a defender better than either Craddock or Berra; Steven Mouyokolo is very quick, very good in the air (attacking as well as defending) and is strong in the tackle.

We do need the strong, quick, tall/good-in-the-air players: Zubar (when fully fit), Mouyokolo and Elokobi/Mancienne at LB.

Some of the players who have been starting so far were not regulars when we won the Championship, e.g: Ward, Jones, Edwards, Stearman. Berra is not strong enough on the ground or in the air.

I look forward to Hunt appearing, he will also help to strengthen the side, along with the others mentioned.

If the above were all fit and selcted, we would only be short of a quality play-maker in midfield (a comitted version of Jimmy Bullard). Come on you Wolves!

I agree with Steve we will come good, but when games go against us, we always get some fans negative attitudes come on here. I agree that our first half against Villa was not good but second half we were better than them, I was at Tottenham and thought we were the better team until Ward made the two mistakes and I dont really know what Steaman was trying to do. Can’t comment on the Fulham match as I could not make that match.

However, I am sure that everyone concerned on the pitch is aware that these last minute goals that we have conceded are not good and I am sure that this is something that MM and the team are just as disappointed as we as fans are. It is blatently obvious that the lads work their socks off, and they are aware that these last minute errors have to be cut out.

It is still early on in the season and we have players that are injured or coming back from injury.

I am well aware that the referees have a hard job but if they could see what we see from the terraces then it would be a different story, but they can’t so maybe this is something that should be looked at by the FA.

We also have a lot of cheats in this game of football and one thing I can say the Wolves team is not included in this. The way some players go to ground simply because they have had the ball taken off them is just beyond me some they get away with some they dont. In fact there ought to be an award at the end of the season for the actors of this game.

London Wolf you asked where is Zubar

    Zubar is injured.

Come on the Wolves you can go to Wigan and beat them you have done it before. Try and get a couple of goals before half time. You can do it.

Sir Lupi, I don’t think your knee jerk reaction is out of place. At least he has years of Premiere experience which is priceless. As far as I can remeber, Mick’s experience is relegation with Sunderland and probably with us the way we are performing.

On another subject, did anybody see the Rangers right back on Wednesday night? what an outstanding performance, I would love to see him in an old gold shirt to show some of the present squad up.

I am so glad to see that in the face of what looks like a grave situation to most fans, is positive in performace and potential to Steve Morgan. Fans should take a leaf out of that book, i mean if SM pulled out a chq of 18mil this year and still is positive – then why the hell are the neg lord in the wolves crowd not? i always back MM and Wolves! Yes he does, when hes played down the centre but please dont play him wide again, wingers on the wing please !!! Also whats happened to Mancienne ? as many have pointed out when hes in the team we pick up points.
