Karl Henry reassures Wolves fans
Tuesday 28th September 2010, 10:30AM BST.
Wolves captain Karl Henry has re-assured fans the players will soon return to winning ways as he thanked supporters for their patience.
Mick McCarthy’s men are bidding to end a run of three successive defeats against Fulham, Tottenham and Villa that have seen them ship five late goals after leading in two of the games.
The next two matches offer the chance for an upturn in fortunes with Wigan and West Ham below Wolves in the Premier League table.
And Henry is confident his team-mates can turn things around.
He said: “I think everyone knows it’s early days and I just want to say how great the supporters have been. Even at times on Sunday when they must have found it frustrating, they kept behind us.
“They were a massive part of us pushing on in the second half and doing so well. We want to do it for us and the fans but we need to kick on and start picking up points – and we will do just that.
“I’ve got every confidence in every player in that dressing room that we can. We feel as though it’s only a matter of time before we start picking up those wins we need.
“Football’s about goals and points and that’s three games with no points and we’ve got to put that right. We’re all itching to do that.
“It will happen, it will turn around, it’s just a matter of time. When the fixtures came out, these next two games were ones we thought represented a good chance of winning.
“They’re certainly matches where we’ll be looking to pick up points.”
Henry admitted the dressing room was ‘devastated’ after Sunday’s latest setback to Villa.
He said: “It’s just so disappointing to lose late on in a game, it’s devastating.
“We took the game to them and got back in it – deservedly so – and at that stage I thought there was only one team in it.
“The shout from them was that they couldn’t get out of their own half in the second period.
“We definitely had them by the scruff of the neck and to let them get away scot-free and with us having no points was tough.
“But we’ll dust ourselves off and we’ll turn it around.”
Henry also highlighted the importance of Saturday’s trip to Wigan.
He said: “We have got a big game at Wigan on Saturday. We won there last season and it’s one we want to win again.
“There are plenty of matches left and we certainly feel we’re playing better than last season.”
