Matt Jarvis’ dismay despite his goal

Winger Matt Jarvis has expressed his dismay after Wolves threw away his lifeline against Villa.

Jarvis’ freak goal cancelled out Stewart Downing’s opener and Mick McCarthy’s side were heading for a well-deserved point until Emile Heskey’s late winner sentenced them to their third successive defeat.

The Wolves wide man said: “We pushed on but to concede a late goal was very disappointing. We need to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

“We have to take the positives from a good second-half performance. We got ourselves back in the game and then again conceded a goal in the last 10 minutes.

“We changed formation for the second half and tried to get tight and get our game going.”

Jarvis also admitted his goal was meant to be a cross.

He said: “I’m not going to say I meant it. I tried to whip it in to a good area and it went straight through and in so I was delighted. “You put the ball in the right area and anything can happen.

“That’s what we were trying to do at the end, particularly with free kicks – just get them into the right areas and tried to get something.”
