Stephen Ward over Wolves penalty mistake at Spurs
Saturday 25th September 2010, 11:25AM BST.
Stephen Ward has insisted he is over his Tottenham mistake as he warned Wolves to forget about bragging rights and concentrate on getting back to winning ways against Villa.
Ward was in the spotlight for giving away the penalty that saw Spurs go on to score three goals in the last 14 minutes last weekend as Wolves went from leading 1-0 to crash 3-1.
Boss Mick McCarthy has told the left-back he has the chance to redeem himself against Villa.
And the defender said: “It was a silly challenge which I mistimed. But you can’t dwell too much on it.
“I’ll learn from it but I also have to move on as quickly as possible.
“Mistakes have cost us in the last two league games when we did well and got in front.
“It’s not the case that we need to be worried about our performances, we just need to make sure we get results.” Ward is relishing the chance of playing in Wolves’ first local derby of the season but admits it is all about the result rather than pride.
“There’s always more atmosphere and spice around the place with a derby,” he said.
“But it’s not so much about it being a derby as a chance for us to get back on track. We need to secure something from the game.
“If we can keep the same level of performances but avoid silly mistakes then we should have a great chance of picking up points – that’s the most important thing.
“The bragging rights are always nice but it’s more about getting results and it doesn’t matter who we take points off this year – every game is important.
“Villa are a very good side with plenty of attacking threats.
“But we’ve generally done well defensively in recent games and hopefully we can do the same against Villa.
“The West Brom game is the biggest one for the fans but the Villa and Birmingham games have been big games, particularly in the Premier League.
“There’s no better place to be playing in a derby.”

Prove me wrong and carry on the good form and i’ll plus many others will be happy. personally i’d play a fit Zubes he kept young shackled in both games last time.
Come on lets beat the Villa and make a bit of history !!!!!!!!!!

Wolves defence get suckered into stupid ball and man tackles and will never learn untill they cut out the viciousness, Henry should know. All they will earn is the wrath of the referees. Legal contact means shoulder to shoulder. Even if the ball is taken before contact with a player, doesn’t make it a legal tackle. As you know connecting after taking the ball can result in a player being knocked of ballance, breaking his leg. Over to you. JtH.
P.S. It appears players who do ball and man tackles are low in football skills.

Stephen, stop giving silly interviews, and stop making silly mistakes, and learn your trade better? or is this going to be your new job when you’ve finished football?. Your very lucky to have a manager who sees something in you that i dont as a LB, or come to think of it a PL footballer. imo only id have to say your one of the worst LB in my time watching Wolves. You’ve now played in three different positions for WWFC and been ineffctive in all three of them, your never anywhere near your player when he recieves the ball, you make rash tackles when you’ve got other players in and around you, covering you. Dont dive in its clumsy tackles thats given goals away, that have cost other players their places, and in some cases their jobs at WWFC, yet for some reason or another you’ve kept yours?. Like i say your manager sees something in you i dont. So let other players in the squad who can DO both give interviews, you get some extra training done ,on closing down your player 2-4yrds NOT 6-10yrds away when the ball is at his feet, and dont dive in stand up and demand cover from your team mates?. UTW GOOD LUCK TOMORROW LADS. ( including you Stephen )

Mr. Ward, the problem is, you never seem to learn from your mistakes!
Many times over the past couple of seasons, you have made what can only be called stupid tackles and in most cases they have cost the team points.
If indeed you have learned, then why do you keep making the same mistakes?
Timing is the obvious answer and perhaps it is something in which you are lacking?

This players continued selection is a total mystery – one of the worst defenders I have ever seen.

Ashley Young will destroy this clown.
I’m a big MM fan but his lack of judgement over our left back position leaves a lot to be desired. Just glad Gabby isn’t playing.
4-5-1 with Doyle in a withdrawn role and Fletcher up front should see us just about shade this one. Adlene must start.
