Matt Jarvis on course to face Villa
Friday 24th September 2010, 11:30AM BST.
Wolves winger Matt Jarvis has re-assured fans he is on course to continue wreaking havoc against Villa.
The England hopeful returned to training today in the countdown to the Molineux showdown on Sunday, after coming off with tight groins in last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Tottenham.
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy revealed after Tuesday’s 4-2 extra-time Carling Cup win over Notts County that Jarvis would almost certainly be fit.
And the 24-year-old declared he should be available for Wolves’ first derby of the season.
He said: “Things have been looking good. I’ve been making decent progress and I returned to training today.
“It was a strange injury because both groins just locked up and went extremely tight.
“I came straight off as a precaution and looking back it was a good decision because it meant I was able to get treatment with acupuncture and soft tissue work to release the muscles.
“That got things back to normal and I’m feeling good and ready to go.”
As a quick winger, Jarvis’ hamstrings and groins come under more strain than players in other positions, so he has to do extra work on those muscle groups.
He said: “I keep on top of things a bitm because I’m an all or nothing player and I have to be able to fire on all cylinders or I’m not the player I need to be.
“I just need to make sure everything’s right and then I’ll be available for Sunday.”
Jarvis is relishing the chance to test himself against Villa after being one of Wolves’ best players this season.
He said: “It’s going to be a great game to play in. We’re at home and I’m sure the crowd will be really up for it.
“It’s going to be a great atmosphere but Villa are a very good side.
“We did well against them last season, especially in the away game when we were leading until late on.”
Jarvis told of how Wolves are determined to bounce back after away defeats at Fulham and Tottenham, when they have taken the lead.
He said: “The positive is we got in front and were playing well and hopefully we can get the result this time.”

Matt Jarvis has become an essential player for Wolves. There is no denying his pace and ability to cause the opposition problems from either wing.
With the continued abscence of Kightly and Hunt there is obvious replacement.

Vital even at this early stage of the season that we beat Villa on Sunday. The promoted teams, I won’t mention them, have all made good starts and we don’t want a gap between us and them for too long or it means certain relegation. Need to play for 96 minutes on Sunday or however long it is and a ref who is not afraid to make decisions in our favour would also make a refreshing change.

Is he really an “England hopeful”? I mean, I’m quite sure he hopes to play for England but it’s not very likely, is it?

‘vital’?, I don’t think it’s that vital, it would be a nice boost & stop the nervous fans like Stoke on Trent wolf getting on the teams & managers back after a few games though. As for the promoted teams getting a good start, well, it’s just that….a start, remember Hulls start last season….even europe was talked about, where did they end up……?
Keep the faith, Keep believing!

3) The promoted teams have started ok but there are still other teams majorly struggling like West Ham and Everton.
Villa are no better than they were last season and if we are on top of our game, we will definitely draw and could win.
The two defeats were unfortunate and undeserved against two very good teams from last season.

Its obviously not a must win considering the opposition and the time of the season, but we do need to pick up some points soon, as we have a tough group of games against the premier ellite. We will be lucky to get anything out of, and we dont want to fall further down the table during those games.
Yes the promoted clubs have had a good start, but remember burnley last season. The reason why the good run usually doesnt last the whole season is because the promoted teams gennerally have smaller squads, so when the injuries and fatigue starts coming in, they start to struggle. This is why i feel we will improve as the season goes on, with our youngsters playing and our injured players coming back into contention.

When I looked at the teams that came up from the Championship I knew it would be a hard season. Players must believe…..and produce.
