Wolves boss hails Harry Redknapp
Friday 17th September 2010, 11:41AM BST.
Harry Redknapp was today declared Tottenham’s version of ‘Superman’ as Wolves counterpart Mick McCarthy backed him to be the next England boss.
Redknapp’s stock has never been higher after transforming Wolves’ opponents tomorrow from rock bottom to a place in the Champions League in less than two years.
And McCarthy reckons there is no one better than the 63-year-old to succeed Fabio Capello in two years’ time to lead England.
The Wolves boss said: “His achievement at Spurs is absolutely remarkable. Talk about superhero stuff, he turned up when they were in crisis and turned it around.
“It’s great when someone says they want to be considered for a job – better than denying it. And why wouldn’t he want to be considered?
“If it’s going to be an English manager, Harry’s been more successful than most.
“He has that ability to get the best out of people.”
McCarthy’s admiration for the Spurs boss stems from the Wolves man’s first managerial posting at Millwall in the early 1990s, when Redknapp was in charge a few miles up the Thames at West Ham.
He added: “I’ve known Harry for years, from when I was at Millwall and I’ve always admired the way his teams have played.
“They’ve always been competitive and played terrific football and no matter where he’s been, he’s got the best out of people.”
