Wolves owner Steve Morgan today spoke of his pride as he picked up an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton.
The 57-year-old boss of home building company Redrow collected an honorary Doctorate Of Letters recognising his contribution to construction, entrepreneurship and sport and leisure.
Before collecting his award at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre, Mr Morgan joined senior university staff in a procession through the city streets in a cap and gown – and a Wolves tie.
At the ceremony he said: “I am really, really proud. I am quite choked really as I am so honoured.”
He spoke about his association with Wolves which he bought three years ago and paid tribute to the club’s former owner Sir Jack Hayward.
He said: “These three years have been three of the most exciting of my life. My association with the city of Wolverhampton is as Sir Jack has said, as if I had had a heart transplant from Liverpool to Wolverhampton.”
In 1992 Mr Morgan was awarded the OBE and in 2000 he became a Fellow of the Institute of Builders.
He holds three Honorary Fellowships – at John Moores University, Cardiff University and Glyndwr University, and has also set up The Morgan Foundation, which donates cash to charities in the North West and North Wales as well as in Wolverhampton.

I’ve got a feeling this is going to seem more like an obituary than a blog, writes Wolves blogger Tim Spiers.

Good luck to him but I dont think anyone should have any degree unless they have done a uni course as it de values the dedication of all the people who work hard for many hours and years for there’s

Roy – that made me chuckle.
Bless you

Re: 2 (Roy) It’s an ‘honorary degree’ – it does not devalue anything. Those that have worked hard for their’s need not worry ;)

2 ROY
To be honest this bloke knows more about business than any uni lecturer can teach or any student can learn via study.
Steve has been out there and done it. He made his millions by borrowing £5000 and laying concret bases on a caravan park in norh wales, progressing to where he is today.
A very very intelligent business man

Well done Steve! Very much deserved. Brilliant!
@Roy; Disagree strongly – the award is honorary for his contribution to our City and not to be confused with an academic award.
PS
I think you meant “theirs” (not “there’s”)!

2. People who gain honorary degrees have usually worked hard for many years actually doing something and contributing in the real world. To many people are gaining degrees as courses are designed to drive pass results, this is what devalues the degree!! Well done Mr Morgan for gaining recognition of your contributions to Wolverhampton and long may you continue to rebuild our club UTW…
