Stephen Hunt back in training for Wolves

Stephen Hunt today gave Wolves a boost after returning to light training ahead of his expected return next month.

The £3m signing, who hasn’t yet kicked a ball in anger for the club, has started running as he edges closer to full fitness after a foot injury.

The news  is a timely shot in the arm for Wolves after Michael Kightly suffered a setback and Matt Murray was forced to retire.

But the 29-uear-old stressed it was still early days yet. Speaking to the Express & Star in his first interview since signing, Hunt said: “I’ve been out on the pitch jogging for the first time since being here.

“It was the first time I’d set foot on the green grass and it was only a slow pace, but it all helps.

“It certainly wasn’t anywhere near the pace the boys were playing at against Newcastle!

“But when I’m back in full training, hopefully I can get a full two weeks then and see where I am after that. The next step will be to get a pre-season under my belt.

“Then there’s another international break in October, and hopefully by the time those games come around, I shouldn’t be too far away.

“Hopefully I’ll be ready to play in the first team somewhere around then.

“If it has to be after the international games in October, then so be it because when I come back, I want to be fit for the whole season.”

Hunt added: “I feel there’s light at the end of the tunnel now. I’ve been doing some yoga to help my flexibility, so I’m getting there, slowly. The physios are very good and I’m getting good treatment and progressing nicely.

“I’ve listened to the medical staff and the manager and my foot will tell me how far down the line I am.

“After the internationals in October is looking like a realistic date, although I’m thinking differently!

“But I know how far I can push it and to be jogging is a bonus.”

Going to be a quality player for us when he is fit.. Hunt and Jarvis bombing down the wings supplying Fletcher / Doyle / Blake up front. I’m quite happy with that.

Another battler to compete with the likes of Stoke, Bolton and Blackburn. It’s about time we had a squad to play hard and fair, just what we need, let’s hope the refs see it that way!

If Kightly is fit enough to hold a man upright, he’s fit enough to play! Start putting the effort in, lad!

Note: Kites is only standing up as long as Hunt maintains the tension in the string.

Its great news after such bad news of Matt Murray and Kites?. We all knew the situation when we bought him, but i still think it was a ‘Great Signing’ and buying him whilst injured didnt bother me, the situation was exactly the same with Stuart Downing at Villa, but he’s come back ok and he cost about £11M. So lets hope he’s fit and ready to play by Oct/Nov, has he’s an excellent/skilful player and a typical MM type of player always gives 100% ( puts a shift in ). who not only creates GOALS he scores a fair few too. Interesting to see how Hunt will fit in.
The model we used in the Championship was 2 flying wingers and 2 up front. For the second half of last season it was 1 flying winger and 1 up front.
I’d guess that most of the time Mick won’t go with the Championship model, and he’ll want at least 3 in the middle.
That’ll leave just 3 places for Jarvo, Hunt, Doyle, Fletcher and SEB.
We might only see Jarvo and Hunt playing together in a 4-5-1.

I did not know that this forum was used by the club doctors or physios??? You are absolute buffoons, hazarding a guess on when he might play. Mid-September? End of November?
It will be good to see Hunt, when he is fit and ready. The facts are that we are managing well enough without him and there will be tinkering in forthcoming games to accomodate the likes of Mancienne against better standard opposition. Let’s focus on the many plusses. The defence have been solid enough, Henry has been brilliant, Jarvis will make the England squad if he keeps up his levels of performance and Van Damme looks a good signing and SEB is back. Finally, we have Zubar, Mouyokolo, Hunt and Fletcher to come back!

Grey wolf, I seem to remember you are a bit of an odds man. What are the odds that Hunt fails to make 90 minutes in any one game between now and 31 Dec.Rather than spoilt for choice up front we look very limited if,God forbide,Jarvis gets injured. The way we are tackling other sides are going to be ready for us and targetting Jarvis is a strong possibility.Let us not forget Fletcher’sinjury was probably a bit of retribution.

    This is seriously good news.

If we can continue our good form and maintain at least a point a game, then it will be extra boost to have Hunt available by the end of October.

Who knows, the Europa league place may for next season may well be a possibillty.

Brummie Rob, You are right there have been a number of positives and we have made a decent start points wise. But you cannot deny there are also concerns.20 minutes before we mounted a decent attack last Saturday and we were lucky not to be two down by then.Only one shot on target all afternoon.Everton could have been out of sight by half time.We played well against Stoke but the Jones injury probably changed the game just after he had hit the post after running through our defence.I think we have an exceptional manager in Mick McCarthy, but we are relying on him getting players to play above themselves plus excellent organisation and team spirit. As someone else posted recently you can usually only depend on a manager’s ability to get blood out of a stone for so long.
