Sylvan Ebanks-Blake back on track for Wolves

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has revealed he has re-invented himself and is hungrier to regain his place as Wolves’ top goalgrabber again.

The twice Championship Golden Boot winner has banished his difficult Premier League debut season by notching his second goal in as many games in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Newcastle to match his total for 2009-10, when £6.5m Kevin Doyle assumed the mantle of the club’s main striker.

And the 24-year-old says he has benefitted from becoming more of a team player.

“I’m trying to resurrect myself personally,” said the striker.

“People have said to me I’m a lot leaner and meaner this season.

“I missed a lot of football and I’m a lot hungrier.

“I want to be more involved and I want to contribute more.

“Dropping back and helping out the defence can be pretty tiring but it’s the minimum requirement, especially at this level.

“I knew I had to add to my game if I wanted to play and stay in the team.

“You just have to learn to do the unselfish things. Hopefully that will make me a better player.

“The gaffer has made me aware of that and I like to think I’ve grown.

“I’m definitely not complaining. It’s just a case of trying to improve my game.

“I’m fit, I feel good within myself and hopefully it will stay that way.

“I can’t say what happened to me last season didn’t affect me because it did.

“I didn’t have any sleepness nights, but when the goals dry up you try harder to score and ultimately it makes it even more difficult.”

Boss Mick McCarthy said Ebanks-Blake has responded to the challenge to his place from £7m record signing Steven Fletcher.

“He’s responded in the right way, and that’s what I hoped because I’ve got three terrific strikers now and they’re all vying to get in the team,” he said.
