Danny Batth and Sam Winnall set for Wolves debuts
Monday 23rd August 2010, 3:46PM BST.
Wolves will unleash two homegrown youngsters for their debuts in the Carling Cup tomorrow.
Boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed academy 19-year-olds Danny Batth and Sam Winnall will make their competitive debuts for the club in the second round tie against Southend at Molineux.
Brierley Hill-born Batth, a 6ft 3ins centre-back who played 18 games on loan at Colchester last season, has already captained Wolves’ reserve and youth teams and is the club’s Young Player of the Year.
He played in the first-team friendlies against Walsall and Reading last month.
Wolverhampton-born striker Winnall, who is from Bradmore, made his Wolves bow in that 4-0-friendly win against the Saddlers.
For Winnall, who attended Smestow School, it promises to be a particularly memorable night as it comes little over a year since he faced an uncertain future after tearing his cruciate knee ligaments.
