George Elokobi thanks Wolves fans
Saturday 21st August 2010, 11:30AM BST.
George Elokobi today issued a heartfelt thanks to Wolves fans for helping him beat his career-threatening injury – and tackling the challenge of the Premier League.
The 24-year-old defender has signed up for another three years after what manager Mick McCarthy described as an ‘inspirational’ battle against the knee injury which threatened to cut down his big-time career just as it was starting.
Elokobi admits finding his feet again after the injury was the toughest challenge of his career so far.
But he said: “From day one Wolves as a club has meant everything to me.
“Every time I go out there I give my all and I think people can see I play like a proper Wolves boy!
“I feel like I’m part of the furniture now having been here for two-and-a-half years now and it’s been a good journey for me.
“Obviously the injury wasn’t a good part of it but I worked hard to come through it and think I’ve developed as a player.
“I worked hard to get back in the team last season and had some ups-and-downs then as well but I took it all in my stride and made sure I supported everyone else as well.
“I have to say a big thank you to the marvellous fans as well because I always appreciate their support and what they have done for me. It made a real difference.”
Elokobi said that his struggle for fitness after rupturing knee ligaments three games into the Championship-winning campaign while playing in one of the world’s most demanding domestic leagues was not easy.
“I had doubts in my mind along the way, of course I did,” he added. “But I had to be strong and push all those doubts away.
“And I managed to come back strongly which was down not only to my own work but also the medical staff of the club who did a great job.
“There was also the trust from the gaffer that I would get back to being the player I was before and I am delighted he kept faith in me.
“It’s good to know after a horrible injury that the gaffer still wanted me to come back and kept that faith that I would come back.”

Congratulations George! It’s your great attitude & work ethic that have got you to where you are today. I believe clubs look at Wolves now as a difficult team to beat, that what kept us up last season more than having decent players was that we had a strong team spirit.. players giving 110% everyone pulling in the same direction win lose or draw. This is what will give us the edge over other teams scrapping to stay in the league this year! This is where Wolves are stronger than most in the lower half of the division. Team spirit rules and Mick knows it so buys players and picks his team accordingly!

Maybe not currently a regular, but he is definately a brilliant back-up for the Premier League, especially at the age of 24 years. His best years are still to come.

This blokes a donkey, get rid of him and sign a better left back…. someone like Kenny Samson

Hes that bad if he played in a 1 aside left back competition he would be substituted by replaced by a right footed player who had his right foot missing and replaced with a kangaroo tail

He may not be the most skillful of Wolves players, but he can never be faulted for attitude and effort.

I for one am delighted for George, Think some fans forget what this young man has gone through and the help he has been given by the club.
I really hope that he can get better and improve at this level, becoming an excellent Wolves player, I also think he will become a flying attacking full back in time.
With good coaching, more steadiness and accurate passing he will be a fine player.
Good luck to the Manager and Team this afternoon
