Captain Karl Henry today gave the thumbs-up to Wolves boss Mick McCarthy’s summer recruitment drive.

McCarthy has spent a record £18m on five signings in Adlene Guedioura, Jelle van Damme, Steven Fletcher, Steven Mouyokolo and Stephen Hunt as Wolves have kept to their word of adding quality over quantity.

And, although the injured Mouyokolo and Hunt have yet to feature because of injury, after assessing the rest in pre-season, skipper Henry insisted McCarthy had done good business.

“The new lads have settled in well,” said the midfielder.

“The gaffer’s done his homework when he looks at people’s characters and not just as players.

“All the players we sign are good lads and good characters who slot into the dressing room really well.

“They’ve gelled well in the dressing room and are getting on with everyone.

“Fletcher has looked really sharp and looks a natural finisher and has been banging the goals in training left, right and centre. He looks really exciting and will hopefully get us a few goals.

“Jelle has looked really good as well, strong in the tackle and a good player.”

Wolves, who travel today to Belgium to take on Charleroi tomorrow night, have kicked-off pre-season by rattling in seven goals in two games without reply against Bohemians and Walsall.

And Henry said the players have reaped the rewards of McCarthy’s changed routine. “Previously we’ve played half a game each in the friendlies which is probably sometimes not enough so we’ve been having 70 instead,” he said.

“In the first game against Bohemians I was feeling it after 70 but that meant we’d got something out of it.

“It was a decent first game for us as well and a good test for our first game.

“And then it was another good performance against Walsall both from the lads who started and then came on.

“So far so good – it’s been two good performances – but we can’t get too carried away.”

After Charleroi, Wolves go to Reading on Tuesday, Leeds the following Saturday and Hearts the next Tuesday before hosting Atletico Bilbao.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
