Skipper Karl Henry happy to see Wolves signings

Captain Karl Henry today insisted Wolves’ new signings will strengthen the squad and bring on the rest of the players.

Wolves have signalled their intentions to improve on last season’s 15th placed finish in the Premier League by investing a record £18m on five players already this summer in Adlene Guedioura, Jelle van Damme, Steven Fletcher, Steven Mouyokolo and Stephen Hunt.

Henry gets his first chance to look at the new boys on Monday when the players return for the start of pre-season training.

“We knew the gaffer was going to try to strengthen and it’s what everyone wants,” said Henry.

“We know how difficult it’s going to be again just to survive and we need to improve. The signings look good. I don’t know too much about Van Damme but he’s got Champions League experience and Steven Mou-yokolo has had a season in the Premier League.

“Steven Fletcher has already proved he can score goals at this level and I’ve always liked Stephen Hunt.

“Every time I’ve seen him play he’s not only showed his quality but he also has that work ethic which is what the gaffer requires from everyone.

“He works really hard for the team and also chips in with a few goals as well as creating chances, and should add to our threat going forward.”

My only concern for the new season is not signing an out-and-out goalscorer. We’ve got plenty of runners but not many that put it in the back of the net

    Doyle – runner
    Fletcher – runner
Ebanks-Blake – overweight and not good enough for this league
    Maerhoffer – Headless Giraffe
    Keogh – runner
Vokes – Champioship quality at best

    Honest assessment!

As Captain. use all of your influence to get the club to retain Keogh, Hennersey & Volkes,
these are the players that should ‘come on’ as you say nextseason, and all three have skills that can be developed by the Manager and some of the new squad.

    Best of luck next season

Well I havent got any concerns about these lot. . . Proven goalscorers? We have 2 strikers that have scored over 10 goals last season in the premiership with both teams concerned playing a 4-5-1 last season. . . The west ham game typifies why doyle is an out and out goalscorer! We will always get critics from our own fans, but we need to stick together lads. . Bring on the boggies!

    3. I dont mean to be negative about one of our players but all Vokesy did last season was miss 2 absolute sitters at Molineux which cost us 4 points, send the lad on loan for 1-2 years to gain experience.

Hennessey needs to come off his line take control of his area like Matt Murray would do. Send him on loan or if we do sell get a big sell-on clause and fee.

Keogh we must keep. Can play in a number f positions, holds the ball up well and unsettles defences.

Lets bring in Nicky Shorey on loan, Jamie O Hara or Steve Sidwell. Also search the market for a bloke from a spanish clubs reserve team who hasnt played in ages but played for the national team 4 years ago that should sell season tickets!

Of course, as the season progresses many of us will scream at a certain number of players (by “us” I mean the normal Wolves fans not the crazies like Bob).
But for now, how can anyone not be 100% positive about the 3M’s job this off season?

At least on paper, the signings, the fact that Doyle seems here to stay another season and the Molineux plans….it’s all great!

I’m frighten to death of flying but I think I’ll put that aside to make my first trip to Molineux in 9 years this season (last time I saw Wolves-Stockport (!!!) back in 2001)

Lad’s how about the chile player BEAUJOSOIR he would be terrific player, made to play in the prem and for MICKO.The guy as flair, great work ethic(FOR MICKO) stamina in abundance, athletic built and no fear. This guy would make a different in were we finish in the league by atleast 3places.
As for HENRY let him say what he wants to,as he is wolves outright and we need that.

I for one didn’t rate Henry last season, you cannot fault his effort, but he is very limited in attacking play, passes too many times sideways and backwards putting other players under pressure , gives away too many silly fouls in our own half. Let’s hope new signings and some coaching will either make him a better player or show that he is not cut out for this level. A new Captain is also needed.

rudolf. your assesment maybe honest but still wrong,
doyle international recently scouted by arsenal
fletcher, burnley would have stayed up but for poor service and rubbish defence.

keogh, without his goals we would still be in championship

    ebanks see above

mairhoffer, with loan experience at blackpool can be another crouch.

vokes see above needs loan experience . utw

9 JS Have to agree with the comments re: Karl Henry – Far too many sideways and back passes for my liking – I did wonder if that had more to do with coaching than confidence??? It is good to see a local lad play in the team colours but I believe his passing needs to be more balanced and not sideways or backwards

Great Signings so far – I wonder who we loan in???

    Up the Wolves!!!

i would wolves to buy british players any day,but if its a foreign player that replaces henry, then so be it.
BTW,keogh has to move on.we can have only 25 players, not worth a shirt.

For those of you knocking Henry. Try watching Mascherano for Argentina. He doesn’t play too many forward passes but he retains possession just like Henry. He’s valued by Liverpool at £25 million. I’m not saying Henry’s as good as Mascherano, but not everybody in the team has the job of winning the match. Some have the job of trying to make sure teams don’t lose a match.

He was invaluable member of the team last season and will be next. Stop knocking him and learn more about his role within the team.

Karl Henry has 2 do a very important role 4 wolves. He is not the fancy dan of the team but we have no one better to do that role, mancienne included! The player we let go 2 do that role years ago is andrews. People on here call for Sidwell who vile fans think is awful.

No 16, your first two sentances contradict each other. Yes that’s where I am and I do watch my football very carefully having been a life long Wolves Supporter. There is nothing wrong in wanting the team to do better and achieve greater things, if you read my post I have not knocked his effort, but anyone who understands the game should realise that he is very limited, and so much depends on the position he plays in the team. We are all entitled to our opinions, shame you have to resort to the well worn phrase of muppet, unless of course you were refering to to Manager. If you want confirmation of what I say read his stats for last season.

HENRY was used as a spoiler and he did the job asked of him by MICKO.
Coming season he may be asked to do a similar job but with the confidence and experienced gained from last season I for one expect HENRY to do better. He may even become the ultimate water carrier(didier deschamp mould).
Henry as WOLVES blood running through his veins, and this it self is imperative.

As a defensive midfielder Henry’s great(and we need one with the teams we’re up against in the prem). He would’ve done a better job in that role for England than Gareth Barry. Ok less ability on the ball but he wouldn’t get done for pace and his abilty to break up the play is second to none.

One of the first names on the teamsheet for me

Henry was one of Wolves best players last season, fact! Wiv Fletcher & Doyle up front we’ve got the best strikers in the bottom half of the premier league. If we can just improve our goals scored column next season then I av no doubt we’ll improve on last seasons impressive 15th finish. I’m so excited for the season to start & can’t wait for the Wolves to show we’re a quality top 10 team. UP THE WOLVES!!!!

If anything I think these signings are poor.We need players with flair and creativity not players that run forever and ever and create zilch. This is why players likemilijas don’t fitinto the team due tothem not being the Mcarthy player yet they are top quality players. I mean players like Steven Fletcher are a joke, 8 goals lat year and pay 6.5million for him.Thats an outrage and agin proves that mick when given money doesn’t spend it on quality players. Doyle is quality but he needs someone along side who ison the smae wavelength as himand is Steven Fletcher reallylike that? No. Next year expect a tougher and more frustrating year due to making poor signings.
