Wolves hails signing of Steven Mouyokolo
Monday 21st June 2010, 12:45PM BST.
Wolves believe they have signed a future top class defender in £2.5m Steven Mouyokolo.
That’s the verdict of chief executive Jez Moxey and manager Mick McCarthy after extensive scouting of the centre-back signed from Hull on Friday.
Although he is raw and has only had one season in the Premier League, the 23-year-old is said to possess all the attributes to become a top flight regular and he was one of the Tigers’ few highlights of their relegation campaign.
Arsenal have tracked the France-born stopper’s progress and he was linked with a host of Premier League clubs before joining Hull last summer.
“Our team got better as last season went along which was borne out by the results,” said Moxey.
“We only lost two in 10 games towards the end.
“The same probably happened with Steven as a player – by the end he was doing exceptionally well for Hull even though they went down.
“I think Mick thinks he’s got the ability to develop into a really top class defender and I think that’s shown by the fact that two or three other clubs were keen to sign him and even Arsenal have been following his progress.
“He’s got pedigree and we’re delighted to have captured him.”
Pacy and tall at 6ft 3ins, Mouyokolo, who is dominant in the air and a good tackler, is seen as competition for Player of the Year Jody Craddock for the right-sided central defensive berth.
“A right-sided centre back was a principle signing we needed to secure over the summer,” added Moxey.
He will meet his new team-mates for the first time when the squad reports back for the start of pre-season training a week today.

What a strange two weeks it has been since our last game. I haven’t looked over my neighbour’s fence with as much interest since Pamela Anderson moved in next door and regularly used her trampoline, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
