Kevin Doyle reveals Wolves joy
Monday 31st May 2010, 1:30PM BST.
Kevin Doyle has revealed his first season at Wolves has been the most enjoyable of his career.
The club record £6.5m signing finished his first campaign at Molineux as the nine-goal top scorer, as well as scooping the players’ player of the year prize amid a string of man of the match awards that saw him dubbed Wolves’ best player for 30 years.
Those accolades have brought inevitable speculation of a summer move, with an enquiry already from Arsenal.
But the 26-year-old striker, who gets married to fiance Jenny on June 11, insists he is happy at Wolves and has never played better. “It’s been the longest season for me but the most enjoyable,” said Doyle.
“Joining Wolves and the build-up to that was two or three weeks and that began about this time last year.
“I think it’s been the most satisfying season. We were tipped to be relegated and there was a bit of pressure on me joining Wolves, being the record signing.
“So to play well and live up to that I suppose, having an all-round decent season, I’m pleased.
“It could still be a busy few weeks for me alright, it’ll take a few days just to switch off though.”
Doyle, who played a part in two Republic of Ireland friendly internationals last week, also handed Wolves fans a boost by again re-iterating his happiness to remain at the club.
And he says the speculation linking him with a transfer is also a tribute to the rest of his team-mates.
“There is always a bit of speculation,” he added.
“It’s good for your confidence but that’s about it. I have no reason to think I will not be at Wolves next season. I have no reason to believe otherwise and I’ll be very happy if I am.
“I have enjoyed my year there so far. I think we’ve done very well and I feel I’ve done well there too. It’s been a good year for me.
“I think everyone at Wolves has had a great season.
“We were favourites for relegation but, in the end, we comfortably survived with three or four games to go and played some good football along the way.
“It’s flattering to be linked with other clubs, it shows how well the club has done this season.”
