West Brom to release Sebastien Pocognoli at end of season

Albion have told Sebastien Pocognoli they are not going to trigger the one-year option on his contract as Tony Pulis begins his summer clear-out.

The Belgian left-back, who has spent the season on loan at Championship high-fliers Brighton and Hove Albion, will be released after the end of the season.

Pocognoli has been deemed surplus to requirements ever since Pulis arrived at the club at the start of 2015, but removing him from the wage bill will free up some money for new arrivals.

Pulis also hopes to find a new home for winger Callum McManaman, who is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday but still has a year left on his Albion contract.

Pocognoli has made 20 appearances for the Premier League-bound Seagulls this season and earlier this month he scored a crucial free-kick in their 2-1 victory away at Queens Park Rangers.

The full-back is still waiting to hear if Brighton boss Chris Hughton wants him in his squad for next seasons tilt at Premier League safety.

"We're all waiting, everything will accelerate in the next few days," he told Belgian media recently.

"We'll have to see what the club wants and if they want to continue with me. We'll see. Whatever happens, I have a good feeling.

"I'm part of a team that has made history here, and I can go on holiday stress-free. We'll see with Brighton, but there are other clubs that have expressed interest."

McManaman has predominantly been limited to substitute appearances since joining the Owls on loan in January.

He has only started two games for Carlos Carvalhal and hasn't featured at all in any of their last five matches.
