West Brom defender Allan Nyom threatened with FIFA ban over Cameroon snub
In-form Albion defender Allan Nyom could face a possible suspension over his decision to reject a call-up from Cameroon for next month's Africa Cup of Nations.
The 28-year-old is one of seven players who have informed the Cameroon FA they do not want to go to the tournament in Gabon.
Nyom, who joined the Baggies in a £4million deadline day switch from Watford, told Cameroon coach Hugo Broos he wanted to stay at The Hawthorns in order keep his place in Tony Pulis's team.
But Broos has reacted angrily to the decision of all seven players and may now ask FIFA to suspend them from club matches for the duration of the tournament, which runs from January 14 until February 5.
In a statement, Broos said: "These players have put personal interest above those of the national team and the federation reserves the right to take action against the players in accordance with FIFA regulations."
Though rarely enforced, those regulations can allow the game's governing body to suspend players who refuse call-ups without good reason.
FIFA rules state: "A player who has been called up by his association for one of its representative teams is, unless otherwise agreed by the relevant association, not entitled to play for the club… during the period for which he has been released or should have been released."
Liverpool defender Joel Matip is also among the group who have stated they do no not wish to play.
The other five players are Andre Onana (Ajax Amsterdam), Guy N'dy Assembe (Nancy), Maxime Poundje (Girondins Bordeaux), Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa (Olympique Marseille) and Ibrahim Amadou (Lille).
All seven had earlier this month been named in a preliminary list of 35 for the tournament – the final 23-man squad will be named next week.
One of five summer signings for the Baggies, Nyom has proved a surprise success since his move from Vicarage Road, making 14 appearances so far this term.
