Tony Pulis won't shy away from resting West Brom captain Darren Fletcher

Tony Pulis has confirmed he is willing to leave out 'tired' Albion captain Darren Fletcher if he thinks it is best for the team.

Fletcher's form has been poor in recent weeks, and there were unsavoury cheers at The Hawthorns when the Baggies skipper was substituted off last weekend.

With James McClean suspended and Nacer Chadli unavailable, the 32-year-old will probably feature against Leicester on Sunday, but Pulis said he wouldn't shy away from resting his captain if it was necessary.

"If I feel it's right, I'll do it," he said. "It won't be a problem because it's Darren.

"Being the age he is, he is going to go up and down a little bit.

"He hasn't missed a game and he's been absolutely fantastic for us but on Saturday I thought he looked tired and that's why we brought him off.

"For some it comes early (in the season) and for some it comes late but everybody hits a period where they need a rest and Fletch had that on Saturday.

"The previous couple of games he had looked a little bit tired but he's such a great lad and such a great influence around the club whether he's on the pitch or off it. He's a top man."

Fletcher played 42 games for the Baggies last season, and featured in every single Premier League match. He was voted supporters' player of the year via a poll on the club's website.

But it had been six seasons since the former Manchester United midfielder had played more than 30 times in one campaign.

When Pulis was asked what he made of the jeers Albion fans made towards him, Fletcher, and long-serving centre-back Jonas Olsson, he said: "You have got to take it on the chin.

"I don't think it's nice for anybody to get booed but people in the game have to accept there are going to be good times and bad times and supporters will let you know either way.

"Darren and Jonas are experienced enough to understand that's the world we live in."
