Albion have made one signing this window, bringing winger Matt Phillips in from Queens Park Rangers for £5million.

The club remain in deadlock with Leicester over a fee for left-back Jeffrey Schlupp after their opening £9m bid was rejected, and they are waiting until West Ham sign a striker before lodging a club-record bid for Diafra Sakho.

Hammond has flown out to Holland to give Pulis an update on the club's targets.

Asked what areas of his squad needed new faces, Pulis said: "All over. Every position that you look at.

"The back players, midfield players and front players, we have to strengthen.

"The targets have been there, we know what we want."

Pulis was speaking after last night's 2-1 win over Vitesse Arnhem in the FOX Sports Cup, a pre-season tournament in Holland.

Salomon Rondon gave Albion the lead with a wicked free-kick before Chelsea loanee Nathan de Souza equalised for the hosts.

Callum McManaman grabbed a winner 20 minutes from time but Pulis was unconcerned with the result.

"They're a week ahead of us, their season starts the same weekend as the Championship so it's fitness more than anything else," he said.

"The result for me is irrelevant. It's a sparring match, the proper games start at Palace in a couple of weeks time.

"That's when the gloves come off and you have to be ready.

"We scored two good goals. It was a great finish from Salomon and Callum scored a good goal second half as well.

"Conditions are really humid. The lads have really worked hard and they worked hard this morning as well.

"So to actually get 45 minutes out of them again was first class.

Pulis has predicted several times that Rondon, who scored 10 goals in his first Albion campaign, would kick on during this second season.

But even though Rondon followed up his impressive international goalscoring form with his first goal in the Albion number ninie shirt, Pulis is not counting his chickens jus tyet.

"I don't think pre-season means anything," he said. "I've had pre-seasons where we haven't won a game and ended up getting promoted.

"And other seasons where we've played really well and started the season poorly.

"They're just for the purpose of getting fit and working on the shape. To get everything prepared and ready to go."
