The Baggies are willing to offer more money to the the Premier League champions in order to plug the gaping hole at left-back.

Head coach Tony Pulis is not a fan of Sebastien Pocognoli, the only recognised left-back in the squad.

The Belgian has one year left on his current contract, but Pulis and his representatives have been trying to find him a new club this summer.

Chris Brunt played left-back last season, but the former club captain is still recovering from a serious knee ligament injury that ruled him out of Euro 2016 and could miss the start of the season.

Pulis has been playing 18-year-old midfielder Sam Field at left-back in pre-season, but the Welshman is a fan of Schlupp's power and pace on the flank.

The Baggies are also interested in Leeds full-back Charlie Taylor, but United boss Garry Monk insists the highly-rated 22-year-old is not for sale.

When asked if Taylor was staying at Elland Road, Monk answered: "For sure, 100 per cent. He has to be here.

"Charlie's been great, he's been fantastic in training and he's very focused on what we're doing. That's not a problem."
