The lifelong Baggies fan filled in at left-back against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday even though he's traditionally a defensive midfielder.

But the 18-year-old, who has played the full 90 minutes in both pre-season friendlies so far, is just delighted to be on the pitch for the first team.

"It's a little bit of a challenge, but if the manager asks me, I'll play anywhere," he admitted. "I've played left-back before when I was younger so I'm used to it to be honest.

"From a young age I've been taught to fill in. Being able to move to left-back is good to have, especially at first-team level because you've got to show you're versatile.

"It doesn't bother me, as long as he's playing me, I'm not fussed at all."

Field started the PSG game in central midfield alongside Darren Fletcher, but then switched to left-back at half-time.

During that game, Pulis was constantly shouting at the teenager to remind him where he should be in an unfamiliar position. Against Harriers, the Welshman was a lot less vocal.

"I don't think it means anything, sometimes it's just encouragement," said Field.

"It's probably just because I was on the other side of the pitch to be honest!

"If he shouts, he shouts, it's just encouragement, that's how I see it anyway.

Field was surprised to make his first-team debut against Liverpool on the final day of last season. And he's been shocked again by his involvement at the start of pre-season.

So what are his hopes for the coming season?

"Last season I couldn't have predicted the way it went, so far this season has been brilliant," he said.

"I've just got to keep it going, make more appearances. I might be going out on loan but we'll just see as it comes."

It was the first time the 18-year-old had completed 90 minutes in the UK but his Baggies-mad family had to miss the game for a wedding.

"They've very happy," said Field. "I don't go overboard about it. I just take it day by day but they're probably very proud."
