The 33-year-old Welsh shot-stopper has now committed his future to the club until the summer of 2018.

Myhill joined Albion in 2010 from Hull City for £1.5million, and has since made 78 appearances for the club.

There were rumours earlier this summer that Burnley were interested in him but the Baggies were keen to keep him on at The Hawthorns.

He's been second choice behind Ben Foster for the majority of his time at the club, but impressed last year when the England international was sidelined.

In fact, Myhill's tally of 25 appearances during the last campaign is the most games he's played in one season for Albion.

When Foster returned from his knee problem in January there were some fans who thought Myhill deserved to keep his place.

Although head coach Tony Pulis eventually plumped for Foster, he has now rewarded his second choice keeper for his efforts with a new deal.

Technical director Nick Hammond agreed a deal with Myhill and his representatives last night before it was announced today.

Pulis said: "We're delighted Boaz has agreed a contract extension and we've secured his services for an additional year.

"Boaz is a great professional and he provides good competition for Ben."

Myhill and Foster are good friends, having built up a relationship over the past four years in training.

Having watched Myhill keep eight clean sheets for the Baggies during the first half of the season, Foster wasn't expecting to get the goalkeeper's jersey back straight away.

"I was a little surprised to get the nod because I thought Bo had done really well," said Foster.

"He's one of my best mates anyway so I feel sorry for him because I knew he enjoyed playing.

"He really did like that part of it so it's weird. But Bo is a fantastic guy and straight away he was one of the first ones to congratulate me after the game.

"He didn't do anything wrong, I thought he was really good, so he will be disappointed."

When Foster returned to the side, Albion sent Anders Lindegaard out on loan to Preston North End.

Surplus to requirements at The Hawthorns, Lindegaard's contract was terminated earlier this summer before he joined the Championship side permanently.

The Dane was brought in as cover because of Foster's injury and the club have no plans to replace him, instead relying on academy products as cover for the top two.

Three young keepers were handed new professional contracts this summer.

Jack Rose, 21, Ethan Ross, 19, and Jasko Keranovic, 18, all penned one-year deals, while Alex Palmer, 19, enters the second year of his two-year deal.
