Wales picked up four points from their two matches against the team ranked number two in the world by FIFA in a successful qualifying campaign.

And now Chester, who only declared for Wales through his Rhyl-born mother two years ago, will come up against Romelu Lukaku and company again this Friday in the biggest game of his national career.

The Albion defender will almost definitely play, but there are doubts over the fitness of Wolverhampton-born skipper Ashley Williams, who ended Saturday's 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland without being able to move his arm.

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards is also in Chris Coleman's squad.

There was heartbreak for Chester's Albion team-mate Gareth McAuley on Saturday when the Northern Irish defender turned Gareth Bale's cross into his own net.

The disappointment soon turned into anger when the 36-year-old was randomly picked for a drugs test and refused the opportunity to go back out onto the pitch and thank the vocal Northern Irish support.

"Being taken away for a drugs test was cruel," he said. "I was disappointed and angry with that.

"I would liked to have gone out again but it was sods law.

"I missed a farewell to the fans. I would like to have gone out there and said thank you."

Chester is now the only Albion player left in the tournament after knocking out McAuley and Jonny Evans on Saturday before James McClean's Ireland side lost 2-1 to France on Sunday.

McClean started the game against the hosts and Ireland took an early lead through a Robbie Brady penalty.

But a four-minute Antoine Griezmann brace in the second half turned the game on its head before Shane Duffy's straight red ended the game as a contest.

McClean said on Instagram: "Devastated and heartbroken right now! So close!

"So honoured and proud to be a part of this amazing team, we gave it our all, it's been a great journey!

"Are [sic] fans are easily bar far the best there is! Thank you for support yous are a credit."
