Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace remains happy with the job Tony Pulis is doing at Albion, says technical director Nick Hammond.

A frustrating finish to last season saw Pulis end a solid yet workmanlike campaign on a nine-match winless streak.

Albion fans are still split on the Welshman, whose style of play divided supporters for the majority of last season.

But Hammond says chairman Jeremy Peace has no problems with the job the head coach is doing.

"The chairman and Tony have a good relationship, of that I know," he said. "They talk on a regular basis. I don't sense there are any issues there or anything problematic."

The Welshman has one season left on his current £2million-a-year deal at The Hawthorns.

He has stated in the past that he would love to be in charge of Albion long-term to build a team capable of breaking into the top ten and challenging for cups.

But Hammond says Pulis isn't worried about his contract right now.

"Good managers are comfortable in their own body and what they do," he said: "I'm sure the chairman and Tony will speak over the summer (about his contract), but it's not something Tony has raised with me and I don't sense there's any stress on his part.

"Does it unsettle the dressing room? It's irrelevant.

"Players are players. They play for the manager but a player could move any time.

"People over-egg this. If you've a player of significant value, then it's a totally different issue.

"But good managers and coaches are confident in their own ability and I've never seen one get too stressed about the fact he's got only 12 months left on his contract.

"I worked with Steve Coppell for many years. He was a great manager and in some ways out of the same mould as Tony.

"These guys don't get too bogged down with contracts. Steve used to sign one year at a time and say 'at the end of the year I might want to go or they might want to rid of me'."
