Four years ago, Derry-born McClean was handed a wildcard entry to Giovanni Trapattoni's squad for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, having only won his first cap in February 2012.

The 27-year-old wideman managed only a few minutes as a substitute in a 4-0 defeat to Spain, but with Ireland boss Martin O'Neill – who was McClean's manager at Sunderland four years ago – hinting he'll be on the plane when the squad leaves for France on June 8, he is desperate to grasp his chance second time around.

McClean, who missed just three Premier League games for Albion in his first season, is determined to join Baggies team-mates Gareth McAuley and Jonny Evans, who have been selected in the Northern Ireland squad for the tournament.

"I'm feeling a lot more mature as a player," said McClean. "Four years ago, I was just a young boy and had never played any minutes of the campaign, but managed to work my way into the squad.

"This time, I feel more part of the squad. I was part of the qualifying campaign, so I want to play more this time. Hopefully I'll get a chance.

"To represent your country at a major tournament is always something special.

"When I got called up it was a special moment and hopefully if I'm called upon this time, it will be just as special."

McClean will hope for further action in tomorrow's final warm-up game against Belarus at Turner's Cross having won his 37th cap as a second-half substitute in Friday's 1-1 draw with Holland.

The game will provide the players who O'Neill is still undecided about a final opportunity to convince him they should be in his final 23, but the manager will also be keen to extend a five-match unbeaten run.

"For a lot of lads, it will be minutes under the belt and stake a claim, but we want to win to leave on a positive note and take that momentum to France," said McClean.
