Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley make Northern Ireland Euro 2016 squad as West Brom duo net in Costa Rica

Albion duo Gareth McAuley and Jonny Evans have both been named in the final Northern Ireland squad for Euro 2016, while Salomon Rondon and Cristian Gamboa both scored in Costa Rica on Friday.

Defensive duo McAuley and Evans, who have more than 100 international caps between them, were today confirmed in the 23-man squad Michael O'Neil will take to France.

Northern Ireland beat Belarus 3-0 on Friday in the first of two friendly matches before their tournament begins against Poland in Nice on June 12.

The Green and Whites will also play Ukraine in Lyon and Germany in Paris in the rest of their Group C fixtures.

It is Northern Ireland's first ever entry in the European Championships and their first major tournament since last qualifying for the World Cup in 1986.

France may be the last chance for McAuley to make his mark on the international stage, after the 36-year-old announced he was considering retiring after the tournament.

Meanwhile Salomon Rondon and Cristian Gamboa both netted when they played against each other in Costa Rica's 2-1 victory over Venezuela on Friday.

Rondon opened the scoring for Venezuela at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica with a simple finish, before Gamboa levelled the scores when the keeper fumbled his long-range shot .

Ariel Rodriguez completed Costa Rica's comeback with the goal of the evening when he curled into the top right corner.
