Albion defender Gareth McAuley has admitted he faces a decision on whether to continue his international career after Euro 2016.

The 36-year-old was among the stand-out performers in the first Northern Ireland team to qualify for a major tournament in 30 years and is hoping to make his mark during next month's tournament in France.

But McAuley, who signed a one-year deal with the Baggies last month, has revealed he intends to sit down with international boss Michael O'Neill after the tournament in order to decide his future.

O'Neill is thought to be keen for the centre-back to stay on for the World Cup qualifying campaign but McAuley does not want to commit without being confident he could complete it, meaning there is a possibility tonight's friendly against Belarus could be his last at Windsor Park.

McAuley said: "Every time you play at Windsor Park it is special whether it is your first time or your last one. In terms of whether it is my last, I have not made up my mind on that one yet.

"What I'll do is sit down and talk to Michael about things after France. I'll be focused on the tournament and then we can discuss the future."

McAuley recently became Albion's oldest outfield player during the Premier League era, but showed little sign of age catching up with him during a season in which he made 46 appearances.

He continued: "Of course I want to play for Northern Ireland, but the thing is can I commit to two years for another qualifying campaign?

"I have it in my head that I am taking a season at a time.

"I've signed another year's contract at West Brom and the last thing I would want to do is start something and then have to retire or leave it in the middle. That's a big thing I have to sit down and speak to Michael about.

"He has said to me that I look like I could play for another two years but we'll see."

While McAuley considers whether Euro 2016 will see his last appearance in a Northern Ireland shirt, another Albion player is at the opposite end of his international

career.

Teenage midfielder Sam Field has been called up by England Under-18s for their mini-tour of South Korea next month.

It followed Field making his first team debut in the Baggies season-ending 1-1 draw with Liverpool, while an excellent month also saw the 18-year-old named the club's academy player of the year.

Field admitted pride, and a little shock, at the call-up.

"It hasn't quite sunk in yet but when I am in South Korea I am sure it will," he said.

"It came slightly as a shock. I had heard one or two rumours flying around but I didn't expect to be involved at all.

"I just wanted the season to continue after having a good end to it, I didn't want it stop.

"This trip with England is a great step into next season to keep me going."

England Under-18s play two games against South Korea on June 3 and 5.
