West Brom have already earmarked replacements for Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe as they plan a major overhaul of the squad's attacking forces this summer.

Although the Baggies will not be able to make any transfers until the window opens on June 9, they have ditched two of their highest earners straight after the end of the season to free up funds for new players.

Tony Pulis is desperate to inject some youth into the creative forces of his team, and will be working alongside new technical director Nick Hammond in that plan.

But the club knew months ago that they wouldn't be offering Anichebe a new deal, and the decision not to renew Sessegnon's contract was made a few weeks before the end of the season.

The Benin international, who turns 32 soon, always walked a tightrope with Pulis.

He infuriated the Welshman at the end of last season when he paid £500 for a taxi home from Newcastle, but the final straw came this season when he returned late from international duty.

Pulis wanted to offload Sessegnon last summer but no other clubs were willing to match his wages, which are around £50,000-a-week.

Although the winger forced his way back into the team and played 30 games this season, there's the feeling among the club's hierarchy that 17-year-old Jonathan Leko created more goal-scoring opportunities in a handful of games then Sessegnon did all season.

Pulis knows what attacking players he would like to bring to the club this summer, and removing two of the senior professionals proves he will be given licence to get those players.

"You've got to make things happen but other people have got to make things happen as well and they can determine whether you get three in, or five in or eight in," said Pulis.

However, the club do want to keep long-serving midfielder James Morrison, and have offered him a new contract which he is still mulling over.

It's believed the Scottish international does not always see eye to eye with Pulis, and he's rumoured to be interested in a move to former club Middlesbrough.
