Uncertainty still clouds the 29-year-old's Albion career, with his contract running out this summer.

But Morrison has been focusing primarily on getting fit and is desperate to play at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Scottish international ruptured his hamstring at Chelsea in mid-January, but a series of set-backs have left him sidelined for longer than first hoped.

He said: "It's been a really frustrating spell for me because I didn't imagine it would take this long to get back.

"But I was desperate to play. I had a little setback early on so I've taken things very carefully since then to make sure I was 100 per cent recovered.

"I'm there now but of course it's all about match fitness and the only place you can get that is out on the pitch."

Morrison played 45 minutes for the club's under-21s in a friendly against Derby County last week and came through that game feeling 'good.'

Although nothing is riding on the last two matches of the season, the Baggies are in desperate need of a creative midfielder.

Tony Pulis' side have scored just two goals in their last seven games and haven't won a fixture for nearly two months.

But Morrison is not expecting to simply walk into the team, especially considering the impressive full debut from 17-year-old Jonathan Leko.

He said: "You can take nothing for granted because you've not only got the established players doing well, but now we've got some talented youngsters just as keen to play. "

The midfielder has been at the club for nine years and was a first team regular before his injury, but Albion haven't managed to tie him down to a new deal yet.

He said: "I've mainly been focused on getting fit again. Talks have been on-going but we can sit down at the end of the season and iron it out."
