West Brom boss Tony Pulis reckons striker Saido Berahino has been "as good as gold" following his two penalty misses against Watford.

He was thwarted twice from the spot by goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes in Saturday's clash, with the forward subsequently apologising to his team-mates in the changing room.

And, while disappointed, Pulis insists the 22-year-old has responded in the right way and will be on penalty duty for tomorrow's game at Arsenal.

On Berahino, the Baggies chief said: "He has been brilliant - he has been as good as gold.

"He missed two penalties. Everybody does it. All top strikers in the world who have taken penalties have missed penalties.

"The boy wanted to pick the second one up and take that one and he has missed that one.

"He will pick the next one up and take that as well and hopefully he will smash it into the back of the next. It's all character-building for him.

"He is a tremendous player, this year has been very much a rollercoaster season for him and things have happened to him that have never happened in his career before, but you dust yourself down and move on."

Berahino has previously been a target for both Tottenham and Stoke City, with Pulis refusing to be drawn on whether the forward will remain at the Hawthorns next season.

He continued: "I think the important thing there is that Saido works hard for the remaining five games, then speaks to the chairman and other clubs who are interested.

"That is the situation with Saido and it has always been the same.

"The kid is under contract next year again, so as far as I can gauge that is the situation now, as it was a year ago and 18 months ago.

"It won't change until as the chairman feels it's the right move for the football club and the kid."

Pulis was also reluctant to give his thoughts on Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who is coming under increasing pressure from fans heading into tomorrow's game.

He added: "I just think that is management today. The lad at Celtic (Ronny Deila) has just lost his job.

"He loses against Glasgow Rangers, but has won the title three years on the bounce and has just lost his job. That's what happens. Everybody is under scrutiny.

"Arsene has been there a long time and he's put a lot of things in place that that club will benefit from not just now but in the future. Whatever Arsenal, their board or Arsene Wenger decide, it's not for me comment."
