James Chester: Boos don't help West Brom

Getting booed makes playing football more difficult but the West Brom players understand the fans' frustration, according to defender James Chester.

The Baggies were booed off the pitch on Saturday by some sections of the Hawthorns after their 1-0 defeat at home to an out-of-form Watford team.

Tony Pulis' side had the majority of the ball, 16 shots, and two penalties, but still couldn't score against the Hornets, leaving them with one point from the last four games.

Grumbles at half-time turned into a full chorus of boos at the end of the match.

Although Chester understands why supporters are disgruntled, he reckons that response doesn't help team morale.

He said: "We're human as well. When there is moans and groans it does make it a bit more difficult at times, but we understand that fans pay a good sum of money to come and watch us.

"The games we've struggled with at home have been against the lower teams where you perhaps come and expect to take something."

There have been boos at the Hawthorns at regular stages throughout the season and a large section of Albion fans are unhappy with Pulis' style of football.

But the Baggies were on an eight-match unbeaten home run before the last two games in the Black Country, which were disappointing 1-0 defeats to Norwich and then Watford.

Chester reckons Albion were unlucky to lose at the weekend.

He continued: "The way the game started out, it was two teams that looked more comfortable soaking up the pressure and hitting teams on the break.

"I think we had the majority of the ball and an awful lot of play.

"Up until the final third I thought we played fairly well and the final ball let us down at times, but we have got into the areas."

Pulis' side travel to Arsenal tomorrow for a rearranged league fixture and Chester is looking forward to the chance to right the wrongs from the weekend.

He said: "Whenever you lose, it's always nice to have a game so quickly. It's against one of the big boys in the league, who I think we've performed really well against this season.

"We certainly showed that against Manchester City so, hopefully, we can bounce back with a positive result."
