New boy Sandro has been hailed as the ideal player should Albion find themselves embroiled in a relegation scrap.

The defensive midfielder endeared himself to The Hawthorns crowd with some robust challenges during his debut against Swansea on Tuesday night, having joined on loan from QPR last week.

Goalkeeper Ben Foster reckons supporters can expect more of the same from the Brazilian in the coming weeks.

"That's his style I think, he wants to win the ball and he's never going to hold back," said the Baggies No.1.

"He's definitely not a shrinking violet, or one of those types.

"It's good to have players like him in the team, you need it when you're in a scrap like we are. There's plenty of teams down there that could do with a Sandro in their team."

Foster thinks Sandro will have no difficulty integrating into the Albion dressing room. The 26-year-old is said to be an outgoing character and has previously posted videos of himself playing guitar on social media.

"We've seen a few videos of him already," said Foster. "The lads have got them on YouTube of him playing his guitar. He seems a nice lad to be fair and a lad that will slot right in. He's a pretty outgoing character so we're all pretty glad he's here."

The game against Swansea was Sandro's first since December.

And Foster added:"It was tough for him to be fair because he hasn't played much football recently and you could see he was dying a death at the end.

"Fair play to him he put a shift in and you can see what you're going to get from Sandro. He's quite similar to Craig Gardner – he'll always give his all and stick his foot in and get among it."
