Gylfi Sigurdsson's fourth goal in five games gave Swansea the lead just after the hour mark and it like that they would leapfrog the Baggies in the table.

But Rondon netted just his fourth league goal of the season in added on time, scrambling home a corner after Darren Fletcher's initial shot had been blocked on the line.

It was a thrilling end to a dull game but on the basis of all 90 minutes, a draw was probably a fair result.

The result keeps Albion three points above Swansea and puts them eight points above the drop zone for the time being.

Brazilian midfielder Sandro was handed a debut by boss Tony Pulis but Alex Pritchard, Albion's other loan signing of the January transfer window, was only a substitute.

Although he was the talk of deadline day Saido Berahino returned to the bench, having not recovered in time from a dead leg picked up in Saturday's draw against Peterborough.

Swansea came to the Hawthorns with two wins in two and new boss Francesco Guidolin understandably named an unchanged side to the team that beat Everton last time out.

Not only did the Welsh team come to the Black Country on form, they also had much longer to prepare for the game having not played in the FA Cup at the weekend.

Claudio Yacob of West Bromwich Albion and Andre Ayew of Swansea City.

But it was Albion who started brightest with, on his return from a knee injury, Darren Fletcher threatening first.

He drew a full-stretch save from goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski in just the second minute, with a well-placed header from Craig Dawson's inviting cross.

The Swans began with a narrow diamond in midfield, which gave them the majority of possession but allowed Dawson to get forward.

The right-back looked like the most likely to create anything in a cagey opening 20 minutes. The opening 30 minutes lacked any tempo.

When Gylfi Sigurdsson nearly caught goalkeeper Ben Foster out with a 35-yard dipping volley, after Jonny Evans had given the ball away it no doubt gave some of the fans a jolt as well.

But the best chance of the half fell to Dawson six minutes before the whistle.

Given a free diving header seven yards out the right-back could only glance Stephane Sessegnon's low free-kick wide with the goal gaping.

In the midst of this Sandro was having a quietly brilliant debut, winning the ball back both on the ground and in the air.

And the Brazilian created a golden chance for Rondon soon after with a brilliant first touch followed by an acrobatic cross.

However, as has been the case for much of the season, Rondon couldn't find the target.

Swans midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng was stretchered off with a head injury just before half-time, bringing £8million signing Alberto Paloschi onto the pitch for his debut.

The Italian striker signed last week nearly scored straight away when Wayne Routledge put him through.

But Foster - returning from a minor rib injury that ruled him out against Posh - got a strong left-hand to the snap shot.

Andre Ayew already has eight goals this season but the Swans striker was unable to connect with his volley early on in the second half when the ball fell to him invitingly in the box.

Evans limped off with a hamstring injury soon after, forcing Pulis to put Craig Gardner at right-back and switch Dawson to left-back, before Fletcher missed another gilt-edged header.

Once again, it was McClean's pacy delivery to the back post that found his skipper and this time the Scotland international headed over.

The Albion fans were calling for Berahino to come on and they got their wish just after the hour mark.

But they were unhappy with Puliss's decision to bring Sessegnon off, after the African had just registered a rare shot on target.

Two minutes later, though, Swansea took the lead when Sigurdsson pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired it into the bottom far corner.

The Icelander had scuffed a similar chance with his left foot moments earlier but this time he made no mistake.

Pulis threw Victor Anichebe on for Sandro soon after and, 15 minutes from time, the Nigerian striker tested Fabianski with a rasping shot from a narrow angle, but the Swans keeper tipped it over the bar.

With three strikers on the pitch the Baggies should have been knocking down the door.

But it was Swansea who looked more like scoring in the closing stages, Paloschi hitting the post from a few yards out with three minutes to go.

Then Rondon converted the late corner to snatch a point for the Baggies.
