Darren Fletcher has shown an interest in entering into management when he retires, according to Albion boss Tony Pulis.

Praising his captain's impact at the club both on and off the pitch, Pulis said the former Manchester United midfielder was an ideal candidate.

Fletcher has a hands-on approach at the Baggies, chivvying his teammates along to team meetings and leading by example.

"Speaking to Darren, I think he would like to get into coaching and would like to get into management," said Pulis.

"The lad has the potential to be very good at it.

"You only see him for the 90 minutes. It's not just the 90 minutes with Darren, it's what he does around the football club.

"Fletcher is coaching and management material, he's got that in him and one day hopefully he will aspire to do that.

"We're absolutely delighted at West Brom that we've got him."

Pulis is disappointed that more of Britain's top players from the last decade haven't decided to try their hand at management.

He blamed the extortionate wages flying around the top tier of football and the pressures associated with the job.

"The problem we have at the moment in the game is a lot of these top players earn so much that they don't really need the hassle you get with the press!" he said.

"They can have early retirements, great retirements, and work for media or the press.

"They don't tend to stay in and regurgitate into management."
