Arsenal want to recall Serge Gnabry early from his season-long loan at The Hawthorns, but no deal for Mathieu Debuchy to replace him has been agreed yet.

Gnabry's understood to have gone back to North London, but the two clubs are still tying up the details of his return.

Albion currently pay the German's wages and have agreed to do so until the end of the season.

But Arsenal want their winger to be playing matches, and are reportedly eager to loan him out again this January to a Championship club.

Premier League rules forbid teams from having more than one player on loan from the same club, so Gnabry's return could pave the way for Debuchy to join The Hawthorns.

The French right-back is eager to leave the Emirates in search of first-team football ahead of the European Championships and he's been linked with Albion before.

Last week, Arsene Wenger admitted that the 30-year-old could depart the club in January.

Albion are interested in Debuchy – who's been playing second fiddle to Hector Bellerin this season – but at the moment there is no deal in place.

He has not been mentioned in the deliberation over Gnabry.

Gnabry made just one Premier League appearance for Albion, coming on for12 minutes against Chelsea back in August.

He's failed to impress Tony Pulis in training, and has been unable to make the match day squad, appearing on the bench just once in the last 13 league games.

Largely consigned to a role in the under-21s, the writing seemed to be on the wall for the German back in October when Pulis said: "Serge has come here to play games but he just hasn't been for me, at the moment, at that level to play the games."

Meanwhile, rumours Albion made a bid for Ahmed Elmohamady have been quashed.

Hull City have denied receiving any bids for the 28-year-old Egyptian winger, who can also play full-back.
