James Shan's team last tasted defeat way back in March, and are currently battling it out with Derby for top spot in the Under-21 Premier League Division Two having won five and drawn four of their opening nine games.

The Baggies boss says his players are taking pride in grinding out results.

"We are very much taking things game by game at the moment," said Shan.

"As a team we take great pride from not suffering a defeat yet this season, and we want to ensure that run continues.

"We try to win every game, but the players know that if they can't win, then their next objective is not to lose.

"The group are very confident at the moment.

"They are unbeaten and they are in the next round of the cup, which crucially adds games to what is a very short season at under-21 level."

Last week a Kyle Edwards goal away at Cardiff sent them through to the last-16 of the U21 Premier League Cup.

Elsewhere, Tyler Roberts scored twice as Albion's U18 side recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory over Stoke in the U18 Premier League.

There were less than 30 seconds on the clock when the Wales youth international chipped the goalkeeper from outside the penalty area.

The Baggies added a second just 12 minutes later when James Smith surged through the heart of the Stoke defence and poked the ball home from 18 yards.

The visitors pulled one back shortly after but Roberts restored Albion's two-goal advantage in first-half injury time.
