Albion striker Saido Berahino is not in talks with the club about a new £50,000-a-week contract, the Express & Star understands.

There were reports in the national press that the 22-year-old had turned down a bumper new offer at The Hawthorns.

Berahino is under contract at Albion until the end of the next season on what is believed to be £15,000-a-week.

But there are no meetings taking place at the moment to improve that pay.

The striker — who scored 20 goals last season — is only using the international break to focus on getting back to full fitness.

After a tumultuous summer, the relationship between him and the club is calm at the moment.

Both parties are, for now, focusing on improving what happens on the pitch.

"No rest during the international break, a hard week of training ahead for me," Berahino tweeted alongside a photo of himself lifting weights.

"His fitness levels and his mental attitudes have dropped a little bit on what was going on before," said Albion boss Tony Pulis last month.

"We're trying to get him back to what he was last year."

Things were much different in the summer.

Albion rejected a written transfer request from Berahino while Spurs had three bids for him rejected.

The last one was reportedly worth around £23 million, but with just £5 million up front and the remainder paid later on in instalments and incentives if the striker hit certain targets.

After Pulis welcomed Berahino back into the fold, he went on a mini-run of form, scoring three goals in four games.

But he didn't start at Old Trafford and when he came on he missed a gilt-edged opportunity to draw the game level.

"I'm sure we'll get the same speculation in December," said Pulis. "He's a talent and he scores goals."
