Albion full-back Chris Brunt says Rickie Lambert is the best finisher he has ever seen at the club.

The former Southampton and Liverpool striker broke his competitive duck for the Baggies on Saturday from the penalty spot.

But Brunt, who's been at the club for eight years, is backing him to find the net more often from now on.

"I was delighted for Rickie," he said. "He comes in and works very hard.

"He's said he is disappointed not scoring but obviously he hasn't had a lot of time on the pitch to do that.

"He trains very well, he's a fantastic finisher, as good as I've seen at the club since I've been here.

"If you give him a chance he'll score a goal so hopefully that will give him a bit of a confidence boost going into the rest of the season."

High praise indeed from the Northern Irishman, who will make his 300th appearance for Albion against Man United on Saturday if he recovers from the groin injury that forced him off towards the end of the Leicester match.

Brunt himself has been building up a tidy partnership on the left flank with Irish winger James McClean.

His natural desire to attack supports McClean going forward but the full-back praised his winger for the work he does defensively.

Both of them work up and down the wing as a pair.

"James is an honest boy," said Brunt. "He works his socks off for you.

"It's good to have someone like that in front of you I suppose, you can rely on him to do the dirty work, especially going backwards.

"Over the last few weeks we've found a bit of form together.

"I think he's an honest lad and I like to think he'd probably say the same about me as well.

"We can trust each other to do the jobs to the best of our ability and that's all you can ask with anyone on the pitch.

"If you can trust your teammates that they're going to do their best then nine times out of 10 you'll do all right."
