Defender Olsson knows exactly how Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and Chris Brunt will be feeling.

The latter trio helped Northern Ireland cement their place in a major championships for the first time since Mexico in 1986.

Olsson was in the Swedish squad that went to Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine and is delighted for his team-mates.

He said: "They've been flying through qualification, it was really just a matter of when they could secure it. I'm happy for them, they've got a lot to look forward to in the summer.

"It's very special, I was part of Euro 2012 – It's what you dream of when you start playing football to play in the big tournaments, World Cup or European Championships.

"I'm happy for them and, hopefully, I'll be there as well."

The centre-back, who has 25 caps for Sweden, has featured in qualification again this time around and hopes to be involved in France next summer.

But he has had to make do with watching his countrymen over recent games, as he remains sidelined with a groin injury.

Sweden secured a guaranteed play-off position after beating Lichtenstein 2-0, but will hope to qualify automatically with a win against Moldova tonight.

Olsson added: "I want to be a part of it myself but first of all we need to qualify. I've been in and out of the squad during qualification, we've played nine games so far and I think I've been involved in six.

"I haven't played a lot but I've been in squad for most of them. If I can play well here, if I can get minutes then I have a chance. The fans make it so special and the atmosphere really is electric."
