John Wile: Albion are difficult to watch

Club legend John Wile reckons negative football is making West Brom difficult to watch this season.

The former Baggies defender and managing director believes boss Tony Pulis will be more frustrated than anyone.

And Wile questions whether he has the players available to implement more positive tactics.

Albion are the joint lowest scorers in the Premier League and, at Crystal Palace last Saturday, managed just one shot on goal.

Wile said: "I have seen quite a few games this season, there have been some where we have been maybe a little bit unlucky.

"But, on the whole, it's been difficult watching. The squad is not playing the way the manager would want them to play.

"People talk about tradition and that Albion have got a tradition of playing up-tempo, attacking football. At the moment, it's about as far away from that as you can get."

With just eight points from eight games, Albion sit 17th in the early Premier League table.

And Wile added: "It's critical the club stay in the Premier League. It's how you go about that. If you can provide entertainment and stay up, everyone is happy.

"But when the football is as negative as it has been and you are not picking up points, it's tough.

"A manager or head coach can only do what he can do with the players at his disposal.

"I'm sure Tony Pulis would like to go out and play more expansive football, but he does not have the players."

Baggies defender Jonny Evans has, meanwhile, been ruled out of Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 qualifier against Greece tonight with a hamstring injury.

The 27-year-old travelled today to meet up with the squad and could still feature in Sunday's game with Finland.

Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill said: "He hasn't ruled out Sunday."
