Tony Pulis insisted he is always 'totally committed to winning' after toothless Albion fell to defeat at Crystal Palace.

Saturday's 2-0 loss at Selhurst Park was the Baggies' second reverse in five days and saw their head coach criticised for what were perceived as 'negative' tactics.

Albion failed to draw a save from home keeper Wayne Hennessey until stoppage time and Pulis was blasted by TV pundit and former Arsenal striker Ian Wright for his decision to take off Saido Berahino at half-time, with the game still goal-less.

But the Baggies' head coach claims his intention is always to go for victory.

"As soon as the whistle goes I've always been totally committed to winning the game of football," said Pulis. "Whether it's being on the park as a boy or in school in the yard."

Berahino infamously threatened to go on strike after being denied a deadline day move to Tottenham and Wright, at Saturday's game for BT Sport, claimed he 'didn't blame' the striker if he wanted to leave.

Pulis, however, levelled the finger of blame for the performance at his players, claiming too many had let their levels drop and pointing out he had picked the same starting XI which had won impressively at Villa.

"If you watched us against Villa with the same team and the energy and enthusiasm we played with going forward and defensively it was just unbelievable," he said. "Like I said to them afterwards, the level of performance on Saturday compared to that is too big a drop for me.

"We defended well, but we just didn't have a threat going forward. We didn't look like we had the energy to get up there and that was the disappointing thing.

"You can't just defend for 90 minutes, you have to have a threat going forward. That's the team that created six or seven great opportunities against Villa and had more possession and then we played on Saturday, you wouldn't believe it."
