The 22-year-old striker had been due to return to training with the rest of the Baggies squad on Friday.

But with Berahino now the focus of a media storm following yesterday's threat to go on strike, Pulis has opted to give him additional time off in a bid to calm the situation and he will now return on Monday.

Berahino claimed on Twitter he would never play for the club again under Jeremy Peace after the Albion chairman turned down two further bids from Tottenham for the striker.

His tweet read: "Sad how i cant say exactly how the club has treated me but i can officially say I will never play Jeremy Peace." It has currently received more than 43,000 retweets.

The forward was due to meet with Pulis, Albion chief executive Mark Jenkins and the club's football director Richard Garlick but those talks are now postponed until he returns.

Berahino's future had been the subject of much speculation through the summer, with the Baggies having turned down two previous bids from Spurs. The striker also handed in a transfer request and was not selected by Pulis for the last three games, after the head coach admitted he had been affected by the saga.

While Spurs claim their final bid was around the £25million mark, Albion claim otherwise and insist the initial payment would have been only £5million, with the rest in installments.

Peace issued a statement last night in which he accused the London club and their chairman Daniel Levy of trying to get Berahino on the cheap.

"We are now left with the task of repairing the damage created by this unfortunate episode," he said.
