Tony Pulis says he knows exactly where Albion are lacking ahead of a hectic finish to the transfer window with Joleon Lescott looking likely to leave for Villa.

After sealing the signing of Jonny Evans over the weekend, the Baggies head coach is determined to further strengthen his squad before tomorrow's 6pm deadline.

A goalkeeper remains high on his list with Cardiff City's David Marshall still the club's No.1 target, while another attempt to lure Matt Phillips from QPR cannot be ruled out. Lescott, who was recalled to the team for Saturday's 1-0 win at Stoke, is meanwhile expected to leave for Villa in a deal worth around £2million.

The future of Saido Berhaino is also far from set in stone despite reports of Spurs abandoning their interest in the striker.

Albion laboured to their first Premier League win of the season at the Britannia Stadium despite playing for nearly an hour against nine men and Pulis admitted their summer spending cannot end with Evans, who joined from Manchester United for a fee which could rise to £8million.

"He's one of a few players because we're hopefully going to be busy this window," said Pulis.

"He's one of a few players that we need to bring in.

"We know where we're lacking and we need more to be competitive in what is going to be a very competitive league. We need a few more and I think the chairman understands that."

Captain Darren Fletcher meanwhile acknowledged Albion made hard work of things at Stoke.

"We didn't know whether to stick or twist," said Fletcher. "You get the goal and you've won the match and after the difficult start we had, the biggest thing was you've got a lot of time on the ball but you don't want to force passes and risk a counter-attack. For people looking on, you think with nine men it should be easy but maybe lacking a bit of confidence and the nervousness all played a part."
