West Brom could win battle to keep Saido

West Brom could be set to win their battle to see off Tottenham's interest in Saido Berahino after Spurs turned their attentions to South Korea ace Son Heung-Min.

The Baggies have resisted repeated attempts from White Hart Lane to lure Berahino to White Hart Lane.

And reports from Germany last night suggested a deal was close to take 23-year-old Son, rated at £21million by Bayer Leverkusen, to London instead.

Albion had been braced for a frantic end to their summer, with Berahino's future set to dominate the agenda as boss Tony Pulis looks to add more new faces to his squad.

But chairman Jeremy Peace will not be fazed by Spurs' threat to withdraw from the running, as the Baggies' preferred option remains to keep the 22-year-old.

Tottenham's second bid for Berahino – worth a potential £21m but paid in instalments and littered with add-on clauses – was rejected by Albion on Tuesday.

And Baggies first-team coach Gerry Francis, a former Spurs boss, admits the saga has been disruptive.

He said: "There's things going on in the young man's head at the moment and Tony doesn't feel as though he's been in the right frame of mind.

"But that's not to say he won't be playing at the weekend."

Meanwhile, Albion are closing in on a deal to sign Jonny Evans from Manchester United.

The Baggies hope to tie up the loose ends now key United officials have returned from the club's Champions League assignment in Bruges.

A deal could trigger Joleon Lescott's departure from the Hawthorns. Albion sources also insist talks are continuing with Cardiff over a move for goalkeeper David Marshall.

Reports in South Wales claimed the Bluebirds had called off negotiations, with discussions dragging and the Baggies not meeting their valuation.
