New West Brom forward Rickie Lambert is hoping to follow up his promising start to life at the Hawthorns – with a recall to the England squad.

The 33-year-old, who scored a brace on his debut at Bristol Rovers just hours after signing on Friday, insists he can prove the

doubters wrong and add to his 11 caps.

On an England recall, he said: "That is something in the future. I will never give up and, with my character and my personality, that's

something no-one would expect me to do.

"You just have to believe in yourself and, hopefully, if I have a couple of seasons like I did at Southampton, there is no reason why I can't get

back in there.

"It's only two years ago I scored 15 and then 13. Obviously, it's over a year ago, but I've just got to get back to that now."

After a tough season at boyhood club Liverpool, where the former Rovers and Southampton striker scored three goals in 12 starts, Lambert is ready to get his career back on track in the Midlands.

He said: "I have a lot of feelings, to be honest, and I'm not going to get into it right now. I don't think it's the time.

"I have plenty of time to say how I feel. At the minute, I'm just enjoying the day I had. I've become a West Brom player and I'm made up. I've scored two goals so that is the focus."

The forward, boss Tony Pulis' third purchase of the summer, following James McClean and James Chester, is ready to take any criticism that is thrown his way.

He said: "I know there are going to be more comments like that (lost the knack) and I just have to accept it. That's football.

"The second goal was a great ball in and those are the balls I've thrived off all my career."

Lambert added that Pulis' presence was a big pull as he sealed the move, adding: "Speaking to Tony, I thought it was very nice of him to call me and promote his club.

"He didn't have to do that, I was already interested, but that was a nice touch and appreciated."
