Pulis has already run two marathons, climbed Kilimanjaro and cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End, combining his preparations with Baggies' relegation fight.

Now it's sink-or-swim on his own adventure, which will raise funds for the Donna Louise Trust hospice in Stoke, the city where he was manager from 2006 to 2013.

He said: "I didn't do anything last year when I was at Crystal Palace, but this season they rang me up. I couldn't say no. With all the stuff I have jumped into, it was pretty tough.

"You have to go out of the Thames, then down the coast because, at the smallest part of the channel, they won't let small boats or gigs across because it's so busy. My wife's not happy!

"I have done two marathons, climbed Kilimanjaro, cycled from John O'Groats to Lands End, but I have never done anything on the sea. Do I get seasick? I'll let you know.

"There are two teams, which take it in turns. Row for two hours, rest for two hours. We go continuously for seven days.

"The sleep deprivation is what worries me. I am quite a good sleeper so to not get that, that's my biggest concern."
