Pulis's men hammered the table-toppers 3-0 with a Saido Berahino brace, in a game that saw Cesc Fabregas sent off in bizarre fashion.

But Pulis, who took charge in January and has led his side from a relegation battle to 13th in the table, is looking to leave a lasting mark on the club.

He said: "I'd rather stay at a club long-term than short-term, but circumstances happen and things move on.

"You have to decide what you do best and I've enjoyed my time when I've stayed at two clubs – at Gillingham for four years and at Stoke for collectively nearly 10 years.

"They were great times and you can put in place something that lasts for a long time.

"Gillingham ended up getting promoted in the Championship and staying there for a long time and Stoke have gone from strength to strength.

"The clubs I've managed, I have always felt I left them in a better position than they were in when I first went in,.

"And I hope to God, if given the chance, I will be able to do that at West Brom."

Having expressed his views to the television cameras, Pulis went on to deliver a main press conference lasting just 30 seconds in which he praised Chelsea and claimed Jose Mourinho's champions should take all the plaudits.

In his 30-second monologue, Pulis said: "Listen, I'm really pleased, it was a great performance, great result. I think on the night obviously we're very, very pleased. It's a great finish. We finished 13th in the table but

"I don't think anything should be taken away from the team we played. The team that we've played have been, by far, the best team in England in the ' Premier League this year.

"They've won it by a country mile and they've been that better than anybody else.

"Although we've won the game, all the praise, everything else, should go to Jose, his coaching staff, Chelsea and the players. Thanks ever so much and goodnight."
